Flat Metal Canopies

Sleek flat metal canopy structures for entrances, walkways, and commercial facades.

From Our Gallery

Real flat metal canopies projects completed by our team.

Flat metal canopies are clean horizontal planes projecting from a building face — minimal, contemporary, and increasingly the default where the architecture is modern. Without the slope of an awning or the bulk of a structural canopy, they read as a crisp shadow line across the facade.

The apparent simplicity hides the engineering. A flat cantilevered plane has no slope working in its favour, so the frame must be stiff enough to avoid visible deflection at the leading edge, and drainage has to be designed in rather than relying on pitch. Internal gutters draining to concealed downspouts are typical.

Aluminum is the usual material for its strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance, with steel where longer spans demand it. Perimeter or recessed LED lighting integrates neatly into the underside and turns the canopy into an entrance light as well as a shelter. Every unit is designed, fabricated, and installed by Flite Signs from our Houston facility, with permit-ready drawings prepared before fabrication begins and a five-year warranty on completed work.

What to Consider

Deflection is the detail to get right
A flat canopy that visibly sags at the leading edge undermines the whole effect. Frame depth and span should be engineered rather than estimated.
Drainage has to be designed in
With no slope to shed water, internal gutters and concealed downspouts are essential. Without them, water sheets off the front edge onto whoever is at the door.
The underside is visible
People walk under these and look up. Soffit finish and lighting layout matter as much as the top surface, which is the part nobody sees.
